Lakeside Baptist Church is many things. It would take a year of attending to consider the variety of services and programs that are happening. A brief description could be, "a traditional church that possesses life." We believe that good standards and doctrine are important, but things shouldn't be boring.
Our mission is the Great Commission. That is the simplest yet most complete description of what we are out to accomplish. The Great Commission of Christ is found in Matthew 28:18-20, “ And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Our mission is to claim the power of Christ and obey Him in leading people to know and follow Him in all areas of life.
HISTORY
The history of Lakeside goes back to March, 1954. Our former pastor, Preacher Bill Reese, founded the church, with the help of his wife Fannie. It was first called Piney Heights Baptist Church and was located in Langley, SC. The dedication of the charter members is evident in that they met in a canvas tent for the first year as the church was being established. A brick complex was built and buildings were added until 1991. The church then relocated to the intersection of US #1 highway and Belvedere Road at Clearwater, South Carolina. Thirty two acres were purchased at one of the county’s busiest intersections. Being by the lake, the church was renamed Lakeside Baptist Church.
Constructing quality buildings has been important, but building the lives of people has been all-important. The faithful teaching and preaching of God’s book, the Authorized Version of the Bible, has been the key ingredient to growth spiritually and numerically.
LEADERSHIP
The membership of Lakeside witnessed the marvel of God's providing the second pastor in it's 54th year. The psalmist said, "This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes," Psalm 118:23. The church looked to Preacher Bill to find the next pastor, and the search was for God's choice, not man's choice. Pastor Tad Marshall and the church sensed that this was the Lord's will, and we welcomed Pastor Tad and his family. We are honored that God has called him to serve as our Pastor, and since his arrival Lakeside has been blessed with new growth.
As we remember the blessings God has given us in the past, we look forward to future blessings, trusting the Lord Jesus Christ to help us remain faithful to Him and His Word and to continue to let our light shine for Him until He returns.
