Have you ever thought about what it would be like to grow up with out every owning a pair of shoes? For some, this scenario is a reality.
Lakeside is proud to take part in this project to collect shoes for the people living in the townships in South Africa. Barefoot: Shoes for South Africa has been organized by Allyson Shedd, a member of the Lakeside youth group. Upon hearing the testimonies of a group who spent two weeks in South Africa this past summer, Allyson was inspired to make a differece in the lives of the people there, by providing both a physical and spiritual need.
THE MISSION
We will be collecting new & gently used shoes to send to the people of the townships of South Africa. We will need nearly 3,000 pairs of shoes to fill a twenty-foot container.
Shoes will be collected until we have reached our goal. We are currently near our goal with just over 2,900 pairs! Please place each pair of shoes in a shoe box, or container. We need practical, everyday shoes in all sizes for men, women, and children.

OUR INSPIRATION
This past summer some young adults from Lakeside had the opportunity to visit South Africa. While there, they met a remarkable Christian lady named Ella who lived in one of the townships. Despite having so little, Ella was content. One thing she told them was that she did not get a pair of shoes until she was twenty-two years old. This might seem unimaginable in a land where even the most infinitesimal change in fashion results in the want for new attire, but in Ella's home this is not uncommon, and there are countless others who need so much.
This project is an opportunity to provide a need, and to reach people for the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you would like more information on this project call the church office at 803.593.9246.
